A memorable night

It was 7 years ago, in the first week of the autumn. Somewhere in ancient Karelian forests near a Vottovaara mountain, known as a sacred place of local pre-christianic religions, we enjoyed nature during an eight-day hiking. We stopped near a little lake by a foot of mountain this evening. I sitted near a bonfire, late evening had turned into night already. My friend Ruslan threw some firewood into the fire, and cloud of sparks flew up to the sky. There were no people around for 15-20 kilometers. Thin column of white smoke connected our bonfire with a clear, dark sky with a bright-shining full moon. Silence of this night was suddenly interrupted by a sound of a flying duck. Invisible in darkness, it made a loud noise of wings, hitting the air. We served a strong black tea, when water in the pot had boiled, and took out our musical instruments - vargans and singing bowl. I rememer clearly all of this - the smell of smoke, tea and pines, the picture of the wide night sky with a full moon, the dance of fire and shadows in time of our simple music. There was an icredible touch of freedom, calmness and mystery. Next morning we climbed the mountain, but it is a completely another story.
